Located at the top of a scenic hill in Elgin, Arizona, the winery overlooks 25 acres of vines set amidst oak glades, yucca stands, and the rolling grasslands of southern Arizona at an elevation of 5000 feet.
Dr. Gordon Dutt planted Elgin’s first commercial vineyard in 1979 and opened Sonoita Vineyards in 1983. In 1984 Dr. Dutt helped to start the Sonoita AVA (American Viticulture Area), which is one of first regions in the United States to be granted AVA status. The boundaries of our AVA are the Huachuca Mountains, Santa Rita Mountains and Whetstone Mountain ranges. The Sonoita AVA has been recognized as one of the top ten wine trails in the country, by USA Today.
Currently his granddaughter Lori Reynolds is the winemaker and her husband Robi Reynolds is the vineyard manager. We are producing 12 wines that are available to taste and purchase in our beautiful tasting room and gift shop. Our wine tasting fee includes a souvenir glass and features premium wines ranging from crisp and fruity to bold and complex. The tasting room and gift shop looks onto our winery production area in one direction and onto picturesque views of hillside vineyards and scenic mountain ranges in the other. Private winery and tractor drawn tours with catered lunch are available for groups of 10 or more, reservations are needed. In the vineyard we currently have Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Pinot Noir, Petite Sirah, Sauvignon Blanc, Mission, Syrah, and Merlot planted.
