Located at the top of a scenic hill in Elgin, Arizona, the winery overlooks 20 acres of vines set amidst oak glades and yucca stands in the mile high rolling grasslands. The winery offers daily tastings in their 5000 square foot tasting and special event facility. The setting makes the perfect unique backdrop for weddings, family reunions or any special event. Private winery and tractor drawn vineyard tours with catered lunch are available for groups of ten or more. Dr. Gordon Dutt, owner and winemaker at Sonoita Vineyards and now retired soil scientist from the University of Arizona, and A. Blake Brophy established the first experimental vineyard on the Ignacio de Babocomari Ranch in Southern Arizona back in 1973. Encouraged by the results, Dutt planted Arizona's first commercial vineyard in 1979 and opened Sonoita Vineyards in 1983. Twenty years and numerous awards later, Sonoita Vineayrds remains a pioneer in the industry.
